Copper sulphate(CuSO4)

Copper sulphate (CuSO4), is an inorganic compound widely used in industrial production and scientific research. The compound commonly exists as copper sulfate pentahydrate (CuSO4-5H2O) as blue crystals, commonly known as blue alum. The substance loses its water of crystallisation under dry conditions and changes to anhydrous copper sulphate in the form of a white or off-white powder. Copper sulphate is usually prepared by the reaction and copper, or it can be obtained by treating a mixture of copper-bearing ores .
Industrially, copper sulphate is an important chemical raw material widely used in pesticides, plant and animal growth regulators, feed additives, and as a medium in the electroplating and dyeing industries [4-7]. It also plays a role in water treatment for sterilisation, algae control and corrosion protection. Copper sulphate is both a fertiliser and a commonly used fungicide. Bordeaux solution, copper soap solution, and ammonium copper preparations, are made from copper sulphate formulated with lime milk, soap, and ammonium bicarbonate .
Copper sulphate pentahydrate is commonly used in chemistry education laboratories as a source of cationic copper and as a reagent for various chemical reactions due to its distinctive blue colour and solubility in water.

Copper sulphate is one of the more important copper salts, which is widely used in electroplating, printing and dyeing, pigments and pesticides. The inorganic pesticide Bordeaux solution is a mixture of copper sulphate and lime milk, which is a good fungicide and can be used to control a variety of crop diseases. Copper sulfate is also commonly used to prepare other copper compounds and electrolyte when electrolysis refining copper. Anhydrous copper sulphate can be made by concentrating and crystallising copper oxide or copper . In the laboratory, anhydrous copper sulphate can be produced by oxidising copper metal .
