It is soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone and benzene. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and dioctyl phthalate (DOP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) for the three most common plasticisers, plastics, synthetic rubber and artificial leather and other commonly used plasticizers. It is produced by heating esterification of phthalic anhydride and n-butanol.
