Sodium iodide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaI, molecular weight 149.89, colorless cubic crystals or white granules, a white solid produced by the reaction of sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide with hydriodic acid, followed by the evaporation of the solution, and is available anhydrous, dihydrate and pentahydrate. It is used as a raw material in the manufacture of iodine and in medicine and photography. The pH of aqueous solution is 8~9.5, it should be kept in airtight condition and protected from light.
